The “Flyer” was displayed for the first time with her new driving seat designed for two people on Murdoch Day in June 2009. We can now train other members of our project group to drive the replica under supervision.
Murdoch Day was a great success with the “Flyer” steaming around Redruth British Legion car park all day watched by an enthusiastic crowd. Many thanks to the Royal British Legion for their continued support.
Boconnoc steam fair in July really is a brilliant venue for families as well as steam enthusiasts. In addition to the large collection of steam driven vehicles there are crafts, helicopter rides and fairground entertainment. A great day out.
Boconnoc was especially good for us this year despite the bad weather on the first couple of days. We didn’t have the steam valve problems we had last year so we were able to test the Flyer for the first time on grass – wet grass. We have always suspected that she would sink into the ground – especially the narrow front wheel. Check out the video, no such problem. So we were able to drive down the hill to the front of the house and show everyone her paces. She even managed to get half way back up the hill before she ran out of steam.
Anyone for fried bacon? (See bottom picture).
Our thanks to Liskeard Steam & Vintage Club for organising such a great event. We hope to be there again next year on 23rd/24th/25th July.
